Bag Capacity and Backpack Fit Guide

  1. Measure the largest thing you need to fit

    Measure your laptop or other bulky item with its case. Compare all three dimensions against the actual compartment and opening, including any space lost to padding or a curved zipper.

  2. Check how the bag hangs

    Look for strap drop on totes and the shortest and longest settings on crossbody bags. For a backpack, compare the back panel and strap positions with a bag you find comfortable when loaded.

  3. Ask for a view of the inside

    A photo with the bag open can show how pockets are arranged, whether dividers run all the way down and how the zipper closes. Confirm which strap or accessory pieces come with the listing.

Check how a bag can be cleaned

Ask for the care instructions for the exact bag and check whether the lining and outer fabric need different care. Fjällräven recommends cleaning marks by hand on its Kånken Classic.

If you carry lunch or gym gear, look at the corners and seams of the compartment you will use. Check whether you can reach those areas to wipe up a spill.

What should I check if I plan to carry heavy items?
